Understanding the nuances of language and culture is paramount in ensuring equitable access to justice and support services for culturally and linguistically diverse individuals in Australia. Statistics reveal that non-English speaking multicultural communities in Australia have a much lower understanding of violence against women (22%) in comparison to communities with high English proficiency (48%). This is a direct result of language barriers affecting multicultural communities & domestic violence services as well as a lack of legal policy frameworks in place.
