Australia is home to one of the oldest continuous living cultures in the world. Join Polaron Language Services and discover how community leaders and language providers are keeping the cultural heritage alive through language.

A Day in the Life of… Celebrating First Nations Language will uncover the diversity of languages across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and outline the historical and cultural importance of preserving these languages in 2024.

During this live and interactive webinar, moderated by Polaron’s Founder & Director, Eva Hussain, will be joined by Uncle Shane Charles, a strong Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Elder and Lavinia Napaltjarri Heffernan from the community of Papunya in the Northern Territory. Lavinia is an Indigenous Project Officer (IIP) at the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters. She is also a translator and NAATI-certified interpreter in Pintupi-Luritja.

Together they will discuss the importance of preserving First Nations languages, the vital role of cultural sensitivity in language services, the strategies used to engage with community elders and learn about the complexities of translating First Nations languages.
