Immigration and displacement after WWII
After War World II many people in Poland immigrated or were removed from their homes without any paperwork. People ended up in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South America, amongst other nations. Genealogy and genealogical research is the tool to navigate complex archives and to link missing information.
Lack of documents
Finding records in Poland is notoriously difficult because of passage of time, lack of reliable information and shifts of geographical borders. Before the war, Poland kept excellent records of its citizens with birth, marriage and death certificates, commercial documents, electoral rolls and other directories. Some of these archives are now online.
Detective work
Our researchers work in Poland, UK, US, Israel and Germany and speak English, Polish, German, Russian, Hebrew, Spanish and French. They search painstakingly the archives available online, search through existing refugee records created by invading forces during the war and then by liberating forces after WWII and consult by hand other archives available only on request. Some of the documents that we find are far from complete, but they help us in our detective work: pinpointing origins of displaced people, linking to relatives, hinting as to where they went next.
We cast a wide net
Polaron’s EU services are officially recognised by the National Archives of Australia as a genealogical institution. We are members of the Israel Genealogical Society and enjoy excellent working relationships with institutions such as the Institute of National Remembrance and the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw as well as various Polish, Ukrainian, Belorussian and German archives. We are also well-versed in the operations of other national archives, including Canadian, US, New Zealand and South African.
