The Czech government allows dual citizenship since 2013. This means that you qualify for a second passport and you can live, work and study in any of the 28 EU member countries with no restrictions.
How does it work?
You can apply to have your Czech citizenship reinstated by proving your heritage and by satisfying eligibility criteria set by the Czech government. Your application form needs to be accompanied by your ancestral and personal documents, translated into Czech.
How do I know if I qualify?
Many people whose parents or grandparents were born in the Czech Republic qualify for Czech citizenship through descent.
In essence you need to have at least ONE direct ancestor who:
- Was born in the Czech Republic. AND
- Did not leave the land prior to the year 1918. AND
- Never became or would have become a Slovak citizen. AND
- Lost Czech or Czechoslovak citizenship. OR
- Was a Czechoslovakian citizen up to December 31, 1992, and has not specified whether they are a Czech or Slovak citizen since.
