650 questions and answers

  1. My great, great grandmother came to the US circa 1920 from the village of Rymanow which at the time I believe was part of Austria-Hungry, but is now part of Poland. I know this because I have her Ellis island records from when she came to the US. Am I eligible for citizenship in Poland, Austria, or Hungary?

    1. Dear Emily,

      Thank you for the message.

You’re most likely eligible for Polish citizenship, if it can be proven that she was a Polish citizen before departing to the US. Unfortunately, you would not be eligible for Austrian or Hungarian citizenship.
