ABOUT THE GUEST SPEAKER

Joanna Nizynska is an Associate Professor of Polish Literature and Culture at Indiana University. She has a particular interest in gender and queer studies in Eastern Europe, rewriting Classics in modern literature, Polish-American poetic relations and trauma and post-memory in post-Communist countries. Joanna is an accomplished author of many publications including Being Poland: A New History of Polish Literature and Culture since 1918, and The Kingdom the of Insignificance: Miron Bialoszewski and the Quotidian, the Queer and the Traumatic. Joanna completed her PhD in 2002 at the University of California and continues to be actively involved in many academic projects.
